Here is my good friend Piscator waiting for a chance at a school of Tarpon while contemplating the double rainbow and what it might portend. My name is John Kipp and I have been an Islamorada Flats guide for more than thirty years. Islamorada is the gateway to Florida Bay and the waters of Everglades National Park, which in conjunction with the Florida Keys, supports a globally unique shallow water fishery ideal for sight fishing with fly or light tackle. Islamorada and the Florida Keys is the home of saltwater fly fishing. Sight fish the flats for tarpon in the shallow, clear waters of the Florida Keys backcountry and Florida Bay. Other Florida Keys species pursued on the flats with fly tackle include bonefish, permit, snook, and redfish. The boats I use for hunting the fish of the flats are: the Hellsbay Whipray 16, the Hellsbay Glades Skiff, and the Mangrove 17. These boats are all composite-constructed technical poling skiffs. In addition to the time I spend guiding anglers on the flats of Islamorada and the Florida Keys, I have also been involved in the development of the new Islamorada 18 flats skiff, which you can see in the photo galleries and slideshow sections of this site.
